UPDATE ON ASUU STRIKE...

In Redetermining and restructuring of the academic structure  the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) embarked on the ongoing nationwide strike.
It is so unfortunate that the FG is yet to call for a NEC meeting on the issue.

ASUU President told PREMIUM TIMES on Sunday that the union has placed a memo on how universities can be funded before the government but nothing has been done on it.

The ASUU National President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, confirmed this during a phone interview with PREMIUM TIMES on Sunday evening.

“If government is able to tackle at least two out of about five issues presented on the table, ASUU should, please, reconsider its action and go back to work for the sake of our children and the future of our dear country,” he urged.

“We have submitted the report of a joint committee to the minister; on how to generate funds to address the outstanding balance of N1.3 trillion.

It is like the minister is not addressing issues raised and the recommendation in the report,” he said.
According to him, the strike is capable of making some of students to lose interest in schooling.

“However, I plead with ASUU to reconsider its action as soon as government shows sincere commitment to revisiting the issue.

It is vividly known to us that the union embarked on strike one week ago, reasons been the poor funding of Nigerian universities and an alleged plan by the federal government to increase student’s fees and introduce an education bank. ASUU also accuses FG of not implementing a 2017 agreement.
