EFCC To Charge Internet Fraudsters Nabbed In Okwu-Uratta, Others To Court

#Duru_Victor_reports

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has affirmed that the suspected internet fraudsters aka yahoo boys/419ers arrested yesterday in Okwu-Uratta and Aladinma alliances amongst others within Owerri will be charged to court, Duru Victor learns.

The EFCC gave this assurance today through its South-East Zonal Office Head, Usman Imam.

Recall that operatives of the EFCC raided some target residences including Flora and Faith Villas in Okwu-Uratta Alliance; Aladinma Alliance; B-court Alliance and Egbu area following an intelligence report.

According to the EFCC about 37 suspects were apprehended with 25 exotic cars, laptops and expensive mobile phones recovered.

In an official media statement regarding the EFCC's swoop yesterday, the Zonal Head Usman Imam who decried the high rate of cybercrime in the South East zone has blamed the acts of the alleged internet fraudsters on the erosion and breakdown of country's values.

He said the exercise was in line with the commission's mandate and lamented that if nothing was done, the country's leadership could be jeopardizes as many youths involved in cyber crimes are expected to take up leadership positions in the future.

"It is true that no society has been able to totally eradicate crime, but we are ready at least to reduce it to the barest minimum and it appears that this cybercrime is one of the challenges of our time, which the EFCC is willing to face drastically", he said.

He wondered why a university student, new graduate or youth corper will be looking for money to buy a car of N10 million and further affirmed that the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations into the matter are concluded.

*Topic: The Economic Impact of FRIENDSHIP

*Most of us have friends but most of us are not maximizing the potential of our friendships.*

What does it mean to have a friend?

Why do people need friends?

Who is a friend?

These are simple questions that we all know the answers to, but what exactly is the economic impact of friendships?

*The first thing I want you to know about friendship is that it is security.*

*The second thing is that friendship is banking.*

If you understand these principles, then you are one step closer to understanding the economic impact of friendships.

Lesson 1: List 5 things you do with your friends. How many of these 5 things bring money to your account or has commercial value? Let's start now....

Lesson 2: How many of your friends know your dreams and ambition?

Lesson 3: How many of your friends contribute to your dreams and ambition?

I want you to know that friendship is not all about fun and gossip. Friendship is a ladder to wealth and prosperity.

You and your friends can still gossip, have fun and create wealth at the same time.

*Friendship is the most powerful leveraging tool in the world. It is the vehicle the rich use in getting richer and it is also what the poor use in getting poorer. He that has an ear, let him hear what I am saying.*

Imagine walking into a car shop, ordering a beautiful SUV, and then, to your surprise, you're being informed that it has already been paid for. Where did this unexpected gift come from? Wow!

*When will you get tired of keeping unprofitable friendships*?

Just like a business enterprise, I want you to analyze the profitability of your friendships....

*Last 3 years, I got into a financial mess by investing wrongly. Suddenly, I needed one million naira to come alive. My dear friends, I couldn't raise that money. I picked up my phone and scrolled up and down if I could find someone in my phone book to rescue me... alas! There was nobody. That was when I knew I was in trouble......*

My question is simple..... *WHO ARE THE PEOPLE ON YOUR PHONE BOOK*?

*If you need One Million Naira today, is there someone on your phone book you can call to transfer that money to you?*

*If you want to reach the Governor of your state, is there someone on your phone book that can help?*

*Some people are suffering today, yet they have 3000 people on their phone book. What are those people for?*

You must understand how friendship became a tool of the powerful. Powerful people have used friendships to become more powerful. What are you doing with your friends?

*When you sit with your friends everyday, what do you guys talk about?* *Do you talk about boy friends and girl friends or do you talk about how to rule the world?*

*AFTER READING THIS, YOU MUST HAVE A KNACK FOR BUILDING HIGH-PROFILED RELATIONSHIPS. AVOID HORIZONTAL Relationships, IT'S DANGEROUS*......

How many old people are your friends? If none, look for one.

Your friends must not be your mates or be in your class alone. Make friends everywhere and from every class, tribe .

If you don't have any friend from other countries, this platform is your opportunity. Make good friends....

What is the economic impact of befriending people? Why do people make friends?

*Don't be afraid to make huge sacrifices for your friends*. Remember I said friendship is security. I also said friendship is a bank. Bank wisely.

*Important lessons my father taught me* :

1. Don't wait for the opportunity to help people, create it. Wow!

2. Friends are wealth; it's only a bad business person that will abandon old friends because he found new ones. Don't be a bad business man/woman....

Every year, not satisfied being the hyper - successful, 28-year-old CEO of the company of the decade, Mark Zuckerberg tries to improve himself by setting an annual challenge. In 2009, he wore a tie daily. In 2010, he studied Chinese. In 2011, he only ate meat that he himself killed.

So what was his New Year resolution for 2013? It was to make a new friend everyday......do you think he is mad?

No, he is not mad....he understands the economic impact of friendships.

Some of us have not made any meaningful friends for the past 7 years and we are proud of it. They call themselves private people. OK

A smarter you is only a decision away. You and your friends can rule the world with ideas and partnerships.

*Do not forget that friends are wealth.*

*With you all, I AM A WEALTHY MAN.*

Latest On Asuu Strike in January 2019

Ahead of 2019 general elections, INEC has decided to hold a consultative meeting with the lecturers’ union, ASUU

The national president of ASUU, Biodun Ogunyemi, made this development known on Monday, December 31.

ASUU STRIKE IN 2018

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities disagreed with the statement by INEC that the strike by university lecturers could jeopardise the elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has decided to hold a meeting with the lecturers’ union, the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) on Friday, January 4, ahead of 2019 general polls.

Premium Times reports that the national president of ASUU, Biodun Ogunyemi, confirmed the development on Monday, December 31. According to Ogunyemi, the major reason for the meeting is for the union to assist the electoral body in the forthcoming election.

The meeting, according to the electoral body, will be limited to the involvement of their members in the 2019 general elections.

Ogunyemi said the meeting will hold in Abuja. INEC had raised an alarm that the lingering ASUU strike would no doubt have a serious impact on the preparations for the conduct of the 2019 elections.

The commission said: “They are one critical resource and their absence will have adverse effects on the ad hoc staff requirement of INEC.

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) disagreed with the statement by INEC that the strike by university lecturers could jeopardise the 2019 elections saying, “the ongoing national strike by ASUU has nothing to do with the 2019 elections.”

INEC’s national commissioner and chairman voter education and publicity, Festus Okoye, said the commission is hopeful and positive that it's scheduled a meeting with the leadership of ASUU and the leadership of other unions in federal tertiary institutions on Friday would yield the desired result.

PRESS RELEASE SUBJECT: GOVERNOR ROCHAS OKOROCHA URGES RELIGIOUS LEADERS & TRADITIONAL RULERS TO SHUN PARTISAN POLITICS.

-SAYS THEIR NON-INVOLVEMENT IN POLITICS WOULD BE USEFUL TO THE SOCIETY & INSTITUTIONS THEY REPRESENT THAN THEIR INVOLVEMENT

-ADDS THAT HIS GOVERNORSHIP IN IMO IS A SUCCESSFUL ONE.

Governor Rochas Okorocha has urged religious Leaders and Traditional Rulers to shun partisan politics and avoid actions and utterances that could give the impression that they are involved in Politics, adding that both the Religious leaders and traditional rulers represent two vital institutions that should not be allowed to be tainted by the vagaries of politics.

The governor gave the urge while talking at the New Year Service held at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church Ogboko, Ideato South LGA, on Sunday, January 1, 2019, adding that the non-involvement of religious leaders and traditional rulers in Politics would be more useful to the society and the Institutions they represent than their involvement in politics.

Hear him “When pastors or bishops and traditional rulers delve into politics, I don’t know who we can go to if we run into trouble.

These Institutions must be kept alive and must never be made political. So I advice all religious leaders and traditional rulers to say away from politics so that if we run into trouble, they can come in and advice us, but when they become partisan, we wouldn’t have anybody to report our cases to. I advice traditional rulers and Spiritual leaders to shun politics.”

The governor also urged Imo people to be careful of who they will elect as their governor during the 2019 election stating that electing a known fraudster or criminal, governor would not change the person, but would rather make the person an Executive fraudster or criminal since Political Office cannot change a criminal or fraudster for good.

He remarked “I also want to inform all of you that this is exactly seven years and seven months that I assumed office as Executive Governor.

Going down memory lane, I can beat my chest and proudly say that Imo State is better than I met it. We can proudly say that Owerri the Capital is looking better than it has never looked in the history of its creation. Orlu and Okigwe followed suit. So, my government cannot be found wanting, in as much as we accept that we’re not perfect, but let it be known to all of you here seated that history will judge us as having performed and delivered on our democratic dividends”.

His words “I am the fifth Civilian governor to govern the State. I have done the ones I could do as a human being. There is no local Government in the State without the presence of the Rescue Mission Government. I will leave in few months time as governor. As we are talking about election, we have to be careful in electing who will govern the State”
.
He continued “May God help us to have free and fair election. I pray for peaceful election. With what we have been able to put on ground no governor will come tomorrow to tell Imo people that he won’t work because there is no money in the State. I am the luckiest governor in the history of the State that is leaving office and being celebrated by the people. History will have a nice place for me and my team.”

The governor stated “But of all these projects, there is one I leave with you which will remain in history, it’s the project of the free education.

This has systematically reduced poverty in our land. This has given hope to our Communities and gave opportunities to those who wouldn’t have gone to school to now go to school. This legacy must be kept by subsequent governments if Imo State must be reckoned in the affairs of history.”

He continued “It’s for this reason that I advise all of you to vote wisely and vote those you think will continue with the Rescue Mission ideology because political office can never change anyone. So we know our people and we know who is who. The idea of pretence is for the outsiders because we know everybody.

What is important is not the period of governance but what history will say about you after you must have left office.

I believe that history will have a place for me and my team.”
The governor noted “2019 is going to be a different year in Imo.

It is going to be a year God has blessed. A year of progress, and God meeting us at the points of our needs.

I urge our people to remove hatred from their hearts and have love for all. I thank the priests in Imo for their prayers. I thank the Security Agencies for their good works. I thank the government officials and the good people of the State for their contributions, one way or the other to the success story of the Rescue Mission Administration in the State.”

NATIONAL ID CARDS READY FOR COLLECTION —NIMC

The National Identity Management Commission has said that over 300,000 national identity cards for those who enrolled in 2012 are ready for collection.NIMC Spokesman, Loveday Ogbonna, urged enrollees in the year 2012, up to August 2013 and who were yet to pick up their cards, to do so immediately.

Ogbonna said that those concerned should visit the enrolment centres where they registered and pick up their cards, which had since been printed and ready for collection.

He said that the commission had pasted names of enrollees whose cards had been printed and awaiting collection at various centres, to enable such individuals check and present themselves for card collection.

According to him, some of the people in this category may have changed the phone numbers they used to register, hence they are not able to receive text messages informing them that their cards are ready.

“Applicants who have relocated and want their cards transferred to their current location should visit any NIMC office closest to them to request for a card transfer form.

“They should fill and submit the form to the State Coordinator or Local Government Supervisor for processing.

“This is possible for those who either received text message or confirmed via the list posted at the enrolment centres that their cards are ready for collection. This service is free for now and available at all enrolment centres,” he said.
Ogbonna said that the transfer process was necessitated by a survey carried out by the Customer Care Unit of the commission.

He said that the survey showed that over 300,000 enrolled applicants nationwide were yet to pick up their National e-ID cards.

Ogbonna said that the reasons were because they had either relocated from the locations where they enrolled or had changed the phone numbers they provided at the point of enrolment into the National Identity Database.

“Thousands of registered applicants have changed the phone numbers they provided at the point of registration, and as such, may not have received our card collection notifications, while some persons may have changed location since after enrolment.

”We want to use this medium to appeal to any of such persons to visit any NIMC Enrolment Centre close to them to request for Card transfer,” the NIMC said in a statement.

NEW MILITANT GROUP, WANDE VOWS TO DISRUPT 2019 GENERAL ELECTIONS

The upcoming 2019 elections has been threatened to be disrupted by a new militant group unless the Federal Government meets its demands on the development of the Niger Delta region.

The militant group known as War Against Niger Delta Exploitation (WANDE) revealed this in a communique signed by its spokesman, ‘General’ Nomukeme, in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

The group threatened to begin hostilities should the federal government fail to prove its commitment to the development of the Niger Delta region.

In a seven-point communique in which it indicated and lamented that the government has been denying the people of the region the right to enjoy their God given resources.

Also, the militant group has resolved to support President Muhammadu Buhari if he could prove his administration’s commitment to Niger Delta development.

The communique reads:

WANDE will galvanise the support of all former and current agitators for you; President Muhammadu Buhari, if you can prove your administration’s commitment towards the development of the Niger Delta by implementing our demands as contained in this statement.

“But failure to meet these demands simply translates to our commencement of hostilities.

We will frustrate the conduct of the 2019 general elections across the country if the demands are handled with kid gloves.

The group also brought the attention of the 2019 presidential candidates that none of their policy document shows their plan to improve the Niger Delta region.

“This is because at the moment, no policy document of any of the candidates clearly shows a concrete plan for the development of the Niger Delta before any of them can get our support.”

POLITICIANS PRESSURISING US TO SELL UNCLAIMED 914, 529 PVCs – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday raised the alarm that some politicians in Oyo State were mounting pressure on the commission to sell unclaimed 914,529 permanent voter cards in its custody to them.

The commission said it was not giving in to such pressure aimed at rigging the forthcoming polls because “INEC is determined to ensure that people’s votes count in the free, fair and credible elections in 2019.”

Speaking on the theme, “Online journalism and Media integrity in Nigeria,” Agboke declared that some politicians, whose identities he did not disclose, approached the commission to buy PVCs to rig the elections.

He stated, “As far as we are concerned, PVCs are not for sale.”
The REC assured residents of the state of smooth elections devoid of crisis in 2019, stressing that no worker of the commission would sell PVCs to any politician ahead of the 2019 elections.

Agboke said, “They are looking for PVCs to buy. They are looking for what is not available because they know that these things are not available. This is the security report at my disposal.

“Tell those who are looking for PVCs to buy that there is none to buy in Oyo State. I can assure you that no INEC employee will sell PVCs to any politician. I can assure you that the process will be free and fair in Oyo State.

“Those who are looking for PVCs to buy, I won’t give you their names. I don’t have their names.

“But that is the security report I got and the report did not specify the party and the individuals that are involved. They want us to give them PVCs but we can’t give it to them. They want to buy PVCs but there is none to sell in Oyo State.”

Agboke urged journalists in the state to cooperate with the commission in spreading accurate information to members of the public.

He said, “All of us are stakeholders. If you are in doubt, call INEC. More so, you are online journalists, let us ensure that we have our facts correct. For me in Oyo State, I have nothing to hide. We conducted the election in Eruwa and the people that won, won.”

He urged journalists to abide by the ethics of the profession at all times.
The South-West Bureau Chief of The Nation and an Associate Editor of the Nigerian Tribune newspapers, Mr Bisi Oladele, and Mr Wale Ojo-Lanre respectively, urged journalists to always abide by the rules and regulations guiding the profession in their day-to-day reportage.

They said online journalism had come to stay in Nigeria and admonished journalists to distinguish themselves from ordinary writers considering the fact that “almost everybody is a journalist with the advent of internet and smart phones.”

They agreed that one of the ways for the journalists “ to differentiate themselves from ordinary writers was for them to cross-check their facts, investigate their stories and be conscious of the existing laws of the land.”

FG TO BEGIN EMISSIONS CONTROL PROGRAMME JANUARY 1, 2019

In a bid to enforce environmental laws, the Federal Government has concluded arrangements to begin implementation of national generator emissions control programme from January 1, 2019.

Director General, National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Dr. Lawrence Anukam, disclosed this while commissioning the equipment in Abuja.

He lamented that indiscriminate use of generators for domestic and industrial power supply increases concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Anukam noted that population growth and economic activities have escalated proliferation of industries, use of vehicles and generators, which has led to accelerated air pollution globally.

“Atmospheric pollution is gradually becoming a serious menace in Nigerian cities, especially in metropolitan areas where the use of generators for alternative source of power supply is higher,” he said.

According to him, Nigeria has pledged to reduce its greenhouse emissions by 20 per cent conditionally and 45 per cent unconditionally.

Anukam, therefore, stressed that the emissions control programme is a strategy to significantly reduce pollutants from generators, adding that it would involve periodic testing.

He restated that the implementation of emissions reduction was conceived as a strategy to address pollution and other environmental issues.

2019: ACTION ALLIANCE (AA) CAUTIONS UGWUMBA UCHE NWOSU AGAINST SUPPORTING BUHARI'S REELECTION

The Action Alliance (AA) has cautioned its governorship candidate in Imo State, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, against canvassing for President Muhammadu Buhari’s reelection next year.

National Chairman of the party, Ken Udeze, told journalists in Owerri yesterday that the party would not hesitate to sanction him (Nwosu) if he fails to heed the party’s directives. He disclosed that the party has already adopted candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as its preferred candidate for the 2019 election, adding that AA will deliver Nwosu with or without support from the presidency

“The party has made it clear that we have already adopted Atiku Abubakar at the level of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) and we have also drawn his (Nwosu)’s attention to that.

“So, we have addressed the issue. We have stressed the need for him to focus on his governorship ambition, as long as he is using the AA platform. “But if he disobeys, the party will sanction him. The party will definitely disown him, that is, if he continues to identify with or support President Buhari’s reelection.”

“We have also assured him that our party will do everything humanly possible to make sure he wins election with or without any support or any interest from the presidency and that is the position of the party,” he said. Udeze also used the opportunity to canvass for support of Imo people for the party, saying: “They should look beyond Nwosu being a son in-law to the Governor Rochas Okorocha.

“They should rather focus on his vigour and zeal, and particularly the manifesto of Action Alliance. So, we are calling on Imo people to support our party en masse during the election.”

PHOTO SPEAK: ADAMS OSHIOMHOLE & GOV. ROCHAS OKOROCHA AVOID EACH OTHER AT APC RALLY IN AKWA-IBOM

Muhammadu Buhari arrived in Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom earlier today for a rally marking the kick-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign themed Next Level.

On the President’s entourage are chieftains of the party led by the national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole; National Leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osibanjo and a host of others including some states governors..

Adams Oshiomhole and governor Rochas Okorocha who have been at loggerheads with other over the outcome of the APC governorship primaries in Imo state, appeared to avoid each other and gave themselves distance at the rally holding in Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Okorocha had earlier said his ‘issue’ with Oshiomhole was that he allegedly “stole the mandate” of the people of the state and “gave it away for reasons best known to him.”

The governor stated that the name APC presented as its governorship candidate was not the choice of people of the state. According to Okorocha, Oshiomhole gave the party’s tickets in the state to people who are not members of APC.

I AM PAINED BY THE PLIGHT OF PENSIONERS - UGWUMBA UCHE NWOSU

The governorship candidate of the Action Alliance in Imo State, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu has promised to find a lasting solution to the plight of pensioners in the State. He regretted that our senior citizens are being subjected to avoidable pains before they could get their legitimate entitlements and blamed corruption in the civil service for what seems to be the albatross of the present administration. He promised to overhaul the pension system as soon as he takes over as the governor of Imo State in 2019.

"I am pained that our senior citizens have to go through avoidable rigours before getting their legitimate entitlements. It is also unfortunate that after these rigorous verifications, they still do not get paid what they are entitled to and when they are entitled to them. There is no reason why these senior citizens should not get paid for their years of service to our State. Some of them are the teachers who taught us, others served us in different capacities in the civil service. Now, that they are old and retired, they deserve to be paid without any hassles."

Speaking when the Imo Future Initiative, a pressure group, paid a consultative visit to him in his residence at Eziama Obaire, the frontline governorship candidate explained that he has set a plan in place to ensure that all pension arrears are cleared off within his first six months in office, if the present administration does not succeed in paying off the accumulated arrears. When asked by a member of the delegation why he didn't give the present Government the plan considering that till recently he was the Chief of staff to the same government that is owing these pension arrears, he explained that there is a difference between an aide and the governor.

"My duty as Chief of Staff was to make suggestions, while the governor decides whether to implement such suggestions or not. I didn't have powers to do anything on my own. As governor, I shall implement those ideas that are beneficial to our people and make sure that our pensioners smile again. I know what the problems are and I also understand the predicament of the present administration in solving that problem once and for all. I shall step on toes, no matter how big those toes are."

He thanked the group for identifying with him and urged them to stand with him in his vision to move Imo State forward as encapsulated in the three Cs of Continuity, Consolidation and correction .
